The Civil Service Bureau, in collaboration with the Office of the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Bahrain, organized a lecture entitled "The 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals".
The Director of Human Resources Development Directorate, Mr. Mohammed Saleh Al-Dawood, stated that the lecture reviewed the achievements of the Millennium Development Goals at the global and Arab levels, as well as the 2030 Agenda and the goals, objectives and indicators of sustainable development and their inclusion in government programs. He also added that the lecture discussed the role of the government sector in approaching and linking the objectives of sustainable development and the government sector.
Mr. Ali Salman Saleh from the UNDP office said that in order for the government sector to reach sustainable development goals, all development process partners should be involved including the government sector itself, as well as the private sector and civil society institutions, in order to achieve better levels of sustainable development.
He further explained that linking the objectives of sustainable development with national plans and strategies requires monitoring activities of various government sectors and touching on the goals, objectives and indicators of sustainable development by monitoring the national strategies and plans related to government plans that contain programs, projects and initiatives.
During the lecture, Mr. Ali Salman addressed the goals of sustainable development and the achievements of the Arab Millennium Development Goals, where the Arab region has made progress towards achieving some of the goals through improved quantitative education indicators in general in most Arab countries as well as basic health indicators. He also indicated that there is a partial progress in the Gender Equality Index.
Mr. Ali Salman said that there are developmental dimensions of sustainable development, most notably the environmental, social and economic dimensions. He also stressed on the importance of enhancing the means of implementation of the goals of sustainable development through activating the global partnership, which depends on governments, civil society institutions and individuals.
Furthermore, Mr. Ali Salman also stressed that all global goals are important, each complementing the other, and that sustainable development must meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their future needs.
