Resolution No. (4) for 1979
Regarding
Policy for Car Allowances for
Employees of the Government of Bahrain

Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs,

In accordance with the Prime Minister’ s Resolution No. 6 for 1978 regarding the assignment to Civil Service Bureau of central management and control of all personnel working in the Civil Service, and on Resolution No. (8) for 1975 which delegated some jurisdictions of the Prime Minister to the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, and with the approval of the Council of Ministers; It is hereby ordained:

Article (1)

A car allowance may be given to employees at Grade 5 and above who are required to use their own cars to performing official business.

Article (2)

The car allowance is established at two rates, full allowance BD. 40.000 for employees who travel 350-600 kilometers per month and half allowance BD. 20.000 for employees who travel 50-300 kilometers per month. Those employees who are required by the nature of their jobs to use their cars in excess of the maximum distance for the full allowance, may receive extra compensation at the rate of 0.50 fils for each additional kilometer with a maximum ceiling of BD. 60 per month. Payment for excess kilometers will be authorized by the Civil Service Bureau only for specific categories of positions approved in advance.

Article (3)

Under Secretaries, Assistant Under Secretaries and Directors are authorized the full rate allowance provided they own vehicles.

Article (4)

Employees at Grade 9 and above required to perform emergency call back work may be authorized the full rate allowance.

Article (4)

The Civil Service Bureau is the final authority for approving the payment of car allowances to government employees eligible for it in accordance with the provisions of this Resolution.

Article (6)

6) The Civil Service Bureau will issue a circular of the procedures to implement the provisions of this Resolution.

Article (7)

The Civil Service Bureau and the concerned units in the Ministries should implement this Resolution and it will be effective 1st August 1979, and will be published in the official gazette.
